PUTNAM, Conn. — Barbara G. (Meyer) Fitzmaurice, age 71, of Providence Pike, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at UMass Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Thomas C. Fitzmaurice for 43 years.
Born in 1942, in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Craft) Meyer.
Barb spent her life caring for others. She was a nurse at New Britain General Hospital, the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain and worked as a visiting nurse for the last ten years of her career in Ohio. She was a member of Interfaith Stitchers and loved swimming at Koinonia, where she made many wonderful friends. She enjoyed crosswords, sewing, reading, gardening and playing Spider Solitaire on her computer. She loved spending time with her three cats, “Sandy, Taffy, and Gabby.”
In addition to her husband, Barb is survived by her son, Sean Fitzmaurice and his wife Gwenn Gaumond of Woodstock, Conn.; and her daughters, Kathy Fancher and her fiancé John Flick of Madison, Ohio and Kelly Fitzmaurice of Bristol, Conn. Barb also leaves behind four step-children, Michelle and her husband Mark Byram of Madison, Ohio, Tom and his wife Diane Fitzmaurice of Cleveland, Ohio, Laura and her husband Boyd Arrington of Perrysburg, Ohio and Tim and his wife Patty Fitzmaurice of Elyria, Ohio. She took great pride in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had several special nieces and nephews.
Barb was predeceased by her sisters, Doris Kubiak and Florence “Flossie” Samida; and by her furry companions, “Dusty and Dandy.”
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9th, at GILMAN FUNERAL HOME, 104 Church St., Putnam, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. in the Funeral Home.
