ASHTABULA — Dorothy Estok, age 91, beloved mother, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family at her side.
The daughter of John and Senja (Givenmaki) Pohto, she was born on April 25, 1922, in Monesson, Pa. As a young child she and her family moved to Ashtabula; Dorothy was a graduate of Harbor High School.
On June 7, 1947, Dorothy married Michael Estok and together they celebrated thirty-seven years of love, laughter, and contentment before his death in 1984.
A faithful active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, she enjoyed church family and when she could no longer attend, she enjoyed the home visits from her church friends.
Dorothy was a licensed beautician for many years. She was a talented painter and enjoyed creating “masterpieces” for all to admire. Dorothy was willing to share her life experiences in hopes that what she had learned; she could pass on to others. She enjoyed the visits from her grand dog “Bella” who accompanied her daughter Gayle on her many visits to Ashtabula.
Dorothy will be remembered for her work ethic, her willingness to continue on in the face of adversity. Her gift of love and devotion to her husband, Michael and her daughter, Gayle was unmatched.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gayle Estok and her partner Allison Kelly of Stoneham, Mass.; grand dog, Bella; her nieces, Ila Garner and Cindy Launer; and her nephews, Martti Ukkonen and Steve and Jeff Skaruppa; step-grandchildren, Ralph, Wendy, Matt, Eric, Chris, Jody, Jenny and Scott Hamilton and their children, Angelica, Sarah and Adam, who were very special to Dorothy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Estok; her sister, Dagmar Ukkonen; and her parents, John and Senja Pohto.
Graveside Services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 12th, at Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Larry Mackey officiating.
