ASHTABULA — Jerry Allan Cartner, age 72, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 12, 1941, in Sharon, Pa., the son of William and Flora (Case) Cartner and had been an Ashtabula resident for the past 12 years after living over 30 years in Rock Creek.

Prior to his retirement as a welding inspector, he worked over 30 years for General Motors.

A member of the United Auto Workers, he was a talented craftsman who enjoyed woodworking, flower gardening, and painting on slate.

Whenever able, Jerry attended the events and activities of his grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. He also enjoyed casino trips with his wife when he had a chance to get away.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol Elaine (Schultz), whom he married August 12, 1960; three children, Michaelle (Steve) Schwarz, Jacqueline (Edward) Auer of Jefferson and Jerry Paull (Christine) Cartner of Warren; four grandchildren, Scott (Brittni) and Nicholas Schwarz and Jacob and Ginger Cartner; one brother, Ronald (Betty) Cartner of Idaho; one sister, Janet Powers of Ashtabula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Shain Schwarz; six brothers, William, Walt, Richard, Gene, Kenny and Donald Cartner; and his parents.

A Calling Hour will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of Service at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11th, at the Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kenneth Roberts, Pastor, will officiate.
