Jack W. Felde

ASHTABULA — Jack W. Felde, age 79, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at his residence with his loving wife and son, Steve, by his side.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1932, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of John and Bessie (Watson) Felde and had remained a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. Jack enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 67th Armored Tank Battalion stationed in Germany. He married the former Ann Neuhofs on Sept. 11, 1986, and together they celebrated 25 years of marriage.

After his discharge from the Army, he returned to work on the Great Lakes as a “wheelsman.” His career path changed and he became a tanker truck driver for Air Products and later Linde Air. Jack was very proud to have earned the right to be in the Million Mile Club, he received this distinction for having driven over a million miles with no accidents.

Never one to just sit around, Jack served as a volunteer for the Jefferson Fire Department and was honored to have been recognized as the fireman of the year in 1997. He enjoyed being an umpire for various Little Leagues and Girls Softball Leagues. Jack also worked for several local funeral homes as an outside valet and also was a tour bus driver in Ohio and Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Ann (Nuehofs) Felde of Ashtabula; his son, Steve (Sheila) Felde; Jacci (Ronald) Dannehauer; grandchildren, Jacob, Mitchell and Emily; sisters, Bette (Gerald) Hewlett and Jo Ann (Ronald) Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and James Felde; and his parents.

It was his wish that no funeral service or calling hours be held.

If desired, contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
