DENMARK TOWNSHIP — John A. Gilbert, age 89, of Clay Road, Denmark Township, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his residence.
He was born June 8, 1923, in Hawkinsville, Ga., the son of Tommy and Luizza (Smith) Gilbert and had lived in this area much of his life.
He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1961. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Head of the Deacon Board.
His parents; his wife, Mary; and seven siblings, twins Thomas and Tommie, Henry, James, Laura, Lousinda and Cora all preceded him in death.
Survivors include two nieces, Rosa Whitted and Sheila Hood, both in Hopkins, S.C.; and two nephews, James Gilbert in France and John Gilbert in Florida.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30th, at Central Missionary Baptist Church, 930 Clay Road, Denmark Township, with the Rev. Samuel Richardson officiating. Burial will be in South Denmark Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Service, Wednesday, at the Church.
