SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Lavern P. Biesterveld, known as “Dodd”, was called home peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, April 21, 2013, in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was 93.
Dodd was a devoted husband, a loving father, a talented school teacher, a playful “papa”, and an obedient follower of Christ. He was highly respected by all who knew him, and he lived his life serving the church, the Pro-Life cause and his country. Mr. “B”, as he was also known, was a member of the “Greatest Generation”, living with honor, integrity, tenacity, and never let hardships discourage him.
He served in WW II, reaching the rank of First Sergeant, and surviving major battle campaigns such as Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. He was a man of incredible faith, knowledge, and love for his family. Dodd was a hero in every sense, and although he is terribly missed, we celebrate his life. Even heaven will be improved by his presence.
Dodd was the son of Leonard and Hazel Biesterveld.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, a former Williamsfield teacher; two daughters, Julie and Rebekah; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian Knowles of Williamsfield, Ohio and Doris Loveland of Andover, Ohio.
He lived in Phoenix, Ariz. since 1973.
A Memorial Service honoring his life and with Military recognition will be held on Friday, April 26th, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
