ASHTABULA — Elias “J.R.” Dragon Jr., age 65, of Myrtle Ave., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, unexpectedly at his home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1947, in Cleveland, the son of Elias and Vera (Azzano) Dragon and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life. A 1968 graduate of Harbor High School, he married Barbara Bryant on Sept. 17, 1968. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he was honorably discharged on Dec. 18, 1970, after serving in the Vietnam War.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a mold polisher for B and B Precision Tool for over 30 years.
He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, professional wrestling, country and oldies music, and assembling model cars and airplanes. Sunday car shows at Lake Shore Park with his son were also a highlight of his summers. Always very friendly and social, it was hard to walk anywhere with him where he was not stopping to visit with someone every few steps. But more than anything, his family was his life, especially the treasured times he shared with his granddaughter.
His survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Dragon; one son, Rick (Chass) Dragon of Ashtabula; one granddaughter, Cheyanne “Meme” Dragon; his mother, Vera Grimes of Ashtabula; two brothers, Jim (Carol) Dragon of Jefferson and Nick Dragon of Rock Creek; two sisters, Christine Stickle and Joyce Dispenza, both of Ashtabula; numerous nieces and nephews; and his K-9 companions, “Zoey and Buddy.”
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Richard Grimes; and his father.
A Calling Hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 29th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Family and friends are encouraged to bring stories and memories to share during the Service. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
