Daniel A. Kurki

ASHTABULA — John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

ASHTABULA — Daniel A. Kurki, age 72, of Thayer Ave., Ashtabula, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Hospice House in Cleveland.

He was born May 24, 1940, in Ashtabula, the son of Arne and Cecille (Barnard) Kurki. He served on the lakes as a Merchant Marine from 1958 to 1960 before him and his wife Jeanne moved to Chicago.

In Chicago, he worked as a tool and die maker and worked for Ken’s Gas Station and Chicago Cutting Die before returning to Ashtabula in 1966. He then went on to work for Penco Machine, Bow Socket, B & B Precision, General Electric and Advanced Technology before retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the N.R.A., Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed recreational shooting. He loved fishing, bowling and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He enjoyed doing mechanical and body work on stock cars in Chicago and enjoyed being involved with Slalom racing here in Ohio. Daniel enjoyed playing with radio controlled toys too. In 1988, Dan received a heart transplant, 25 years later he is able to return this blessing by being an organ donor as well.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; two sons, Scott (Constance) Kurki of Woodbridge Va. and Terry Kurki of Ashtabula; a brother, Timothy (Mary Ellen) Kurki of Edgewater, Fla.; sister, Elizebeth (George) Davis of Ashtabula; and by many loving nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter in infancy, Jessica Mary Kurki.

A Memorial Service will be held 5 p.m., Monday, March 18th, at Edgewood Alliance Church, 3137 E. Center St., North Kingsville, with Pastor Gary Russell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LifeBanc, P.O. Box 74174, Cleveland, Ohio 44194. Envelopes will be available at the church.
