ASHTABULA — John A. Copeck, age 84, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Monday morning, March 17, 2014, in the Hospice Unit at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born Oct. 25, 1929, in Conneaut, Ohio, he was the son of Stanislaus and Ludwina (Marsowiez) Copeck.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, John retired in 1979 from the Norfolk & Western Railroad where he was a yard office clerk.
He was a member of the St. Mary Worship Center of Corpus Christi Parish and was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid golfer, he was also a member of the Conneaut Country Club.
He was a Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed fishing, music and playing cards. He loved his family and traveling to Mackinaw Island, Mich., and Melbourne, Fla., where he wintered for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia M. (Brooks) Copeck; his step-daughter, Robin L. Copeck of Conneaut, Ohio; his step-son, Thomas L. (LaVon) Copeck of Erie, Pa.; two grandchildren, Michele R. Barnes of Girard, Pa., and Brian T. Copeck of Fairview, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Karen M. Barnes and Calvin T. Barnes, both of Girard, Pa.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Alayna Barnes. Also surviving is his sister, Sister Lucy J. Copeck, H.M., of Vienna, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, L. Timothy Copeck in 2011; three sisters: Theola in infancy, Mary Meara and Helen Copeck; and four brothers, Charles, Frank, Leonard and Raymond Copeck.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
