CONNEAUT — Mattie Richards, age 88, of Conneaut, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 11, 1925, in Perry, Ohio, the daughter of the late Rush and Cornelia Brown. Mattie married the late Carl Richards on Dec. 6, 1947. She resided in Conneaut for 62 years.
Mrs. Richards was a 1944 graduate of Perry High School. She was a loving mother and homemaker, skilled in cooking, crocheting and knitting. Mattie enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband. She was a devoted member of the Conneaut Church of God.
She is survived by her four children, James (Anne) Richards and Charles (Carol) Richards, both of Conneaut, Barbara (Paul) Hayes-Wiencek of Mentor-on-the-Lake and Janis (Paul) Locke of Cambridge Springs, Pa.; grandchildren, Chris, Eric (Kim), Steven, Katie, Jeff, Kelley and Jaime Richards and Chuck, Jr. (Trista) and David Hayes; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; nine brothers; one sister; son-in-law, Chuck Hayes; and a great-grandson, Nathan Ackerman.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, August 12th, at Conneaut Church of God, Route 7, with Pastor Robson Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Family will receive friends at the Church on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of Services at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Mattie's memory to the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Road, Conneaut. Envelopes will be available at the church.
