Elinor A. Tyler

ASHTABULA — Elinor Ann Tyler, age 77, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.

The beloved daughter of Carroll K. and Ann E. (Mulcahy) Diehl, she was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Ashtabula and had remained a lifelong area resident. A proud graduate of the class of 1954 from Ashtabula High School, Elinor continued her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating in 1958. She received her Masters of Education from Edinboro University in 1958.

She began her teaching career in Jefferson Local Schools where she taught for six years. Elinor retired from Ashtabula City Schools after twenty-nine years of dedicated service. She enjoyed watching her first grade students grow from being shy children to confident second grade students.

Elinor A. Diehl and Thomas L. Tyler were married on Dec. 27, 1958 in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ashtabula, and together shared fifty-four years of love and memories.

A woman of many interest and hobbies; she was a member of two sororities, Sigma Sigma Sigma while attending Miami University and Delta Kappa Gamma of Ashtabula. She held memberships in the Woman’s Fortnightly Club, Evening Guild and Alter Guild of St. Peter’s Church, Ashtabula County Retired Teachers Association; she was a supporter of both the Ashtabula Arts Center and St. Peter’s Fine Arts Program.

Elinor was a talented pianist and enjoyed sharing her love of playing with her family and friends. She and Tom enjoyed traveling to Florida for the winter after their retirements; walking the beaches and enjoying the many pleasant hours together. Elinor loved her family and the time she spent with them. She always had hugs, kisses and an understanding heart for her nephews and their children.

Leaving to cherish her memory is her husband, Thomas L. “Tom” Tyler of Ashtabula; her nephews, Gary Diehl and his children, Katie and Matthew of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Brian (Jenn) Diehl and their children, Nicholas and Joshua of Jefferson; and her brother, David C. Diehl of Jefferson.
