JEFFERSON — Benson Bur Wise, age 83, of South Denmark Road, Jefferson, Ohio, passed on to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, in Ashtabula County Medical Center.

He was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on July 2, 1930. 

A Veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Army in the combat zone during the Korean Conflict where he received two bronze service stars. He spent most of his working life after his military discharge as an owner/operator driving truck for 34 years before retiring in 1991. 

Benson was very active with the First Baptist Church in Jefferson where he has been a member since 1961. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing but he had a special passion for restoring antique and classic cars and trucks.

We have all been blessed to have had the best father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend a family could have as part of their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Charlene (Scott) Wise; children, Dennis Kip Wise and wife, Marianne, Deborah Belknap and husband, David, Daric K. Wise Sr. and wife, Terilynn, and Gale Gregory and husband, Timothy; grandchildren, Ben Wise, Rick Wise, Daric Kurt Wise Jr., Corey Gregory, Brandi Wise, David Gregory, Keith Gregory and Krystal Gregory; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beatrice Grassi, Clara Williams and Edna Rumbley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Benson was preceded in death by his parents, Burr and Lena (McNutt) Wise.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Oakdale Cemetery, 328 North Market St. in Jefferson. The Rev. Phil Kachersky, of First Baptist Church in Jefferson, will preside. Following the service everyone is invited to a Memorial Luncheon at the Church. If you are not physically able to attend the Graveside Service, the family would still invite you to join them for lunch.
