KINGSVILLE — Vanlairion James “Jim” Watson, age 70, of Conneaut, Ohio, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsville, Ohio, following a one-month illness.
Born Nov. 23, 1942, in Painesville, Ohio, he was the son of Vanlairion Elmo and Charlotte M. (Alderman) Watson.
An area resident most of his life, Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was an OTR Truck Driver with the U.S. Express Transportation Company.
He was a former member of the Moose Club and enjoyed being outdoors, especially on the farm where he lived.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Peg” (Loomis) Watson, whom he married April 3, 1981; two daughters, Kimberly (Sven) Erickksen of Goodwater, Ala., and Carol Zappitella of Conneaut, Ohio; his son, Steven Watson of Hollywood, Fla.; his sister, Isabelle Loy of Conneaut, Ohio; six grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher, Ryan and Jamie, and Alexander and Maxwell; and one great-grandchild due soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert M. Watson; and a sister, Rosemarie Brisk.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25th, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Harry Shipley, of Victory Chapel, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Cowle Post #151.
