JEFFERSON — James C. Church, age 74, of Jefferson, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Miami, W.Va., to Clarence and Samantha (Isaac) Church. He married Eonia A. Griffith on June 1, 1996 in Saybrook, Ohio.
Jim worked for 28 years at Union Carbide in Ashtabula, retiring in 1997. James served in the U.S. Army Artillery Field during the Korean Conflict and 3 years in the National Guard. He was a member of first Christian Church in Florida.
His hobbies included golfing, putzing around in the garage and doing word search puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Eonia; children, Lesley (Lela) Church, Melissa (Terry) Cooper and Annie (Lonny Johnson) Church; step-children, Christina (Wayne) Nyman, Teresa (Earl) Elwinger and Debra Kennedy; grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, James and Tiffany Church, Kayra, Corey, Joe and Tom Cooper and Sara Church; several step-grand and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dale Slack, Margaret Vencl, Henry (Norma) Church, Fred Church, Alice Williams, Billie Jean Church, Joann Brydle and Jerry (Kathy) Church; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in eath by his parents; sisters, Mable (Sidney) La Mont, Mary Slack; and a brother, William.
Funeral will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 25th, at WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, with Cora Walker officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery with Military Honors by the Geneva V.F.W. Post 6846.
Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 24th, at the Funeral Home.
