MIAMI, Fla. — JoEllen Nelson Miner, age 69, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away in Miami, Fla., on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, after a tragic fall.
JoEllen was born on Jan. 6, 1945, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Dean and Marjorie (Graham) Nelson. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1962 and Kent State University in 1968. Doug and JoEllen were married Nov. 2, 1973, in Detroit, Mich.
JoEllen worked in the food service field. She was the Food Service Director of the Minneapolis Public School until her retirement.
She was very involved and held many positions in the Minnesota and the National School Nutrition Associations. They retired to Scottsdale in August 2012 from Minneapolis.
JoEllen is survived by her best friend, Doug Miner, her husband of 40 years; brother, Jeffrey (Sue) Nelson of Ashtabula; cousins, Carole Eberle, Alison Bussman and Kevin Graham; niece, Stacey (Mark) Gillespie of Jefferson; nephew, Justin (Victoria Fumich) Nelson of Willowick; many nieces and nephews of Minnesota; plus great-nephews, Colton, Ryan, Lucas and Mason, all of Ashtabula; and many great-nieces of Minnesota; and her dog, “Riley”.
Celebration of Life will be at a later date when her ashes will be distributed in her favorite places.
