AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP —
Lloyd R. Schumann, age 85, of Ashtabula Township, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born June 22, 1928, in Sheffield, Ohio, he was the son of Henry and Dale (Shuart) Schumann.
At the age of 16, Lloyd joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until 1947. Through the Navy he said, “I got a very good education in electronics”, and became self-employed after his honorable discharge.
He married the love of his life, Gertrude (Trudy) McCarty, in 1951. They were happily married until Trudy passed in 2003.
He owned his own business for 53 years. He serviced television sets and installed antennas until his retirement.
He was a life-time member of the Grange. He was also a member of the Jefferson Squares dance club and the Ashtabula duplicate bridge club. He enjoyed restoring historic cars.
He and Trudy were the very proud parents of David Alan (Susy) Schumann of Christinburg, Va., Peter Alan (Beverley) Schumann of Ashtabula and Jill (Garvin) Schumann Rumberger of Carlisle, Pa. They had five wonderful grandchildren, Matthew, Adam (Amanda), Christopher, Eric (Taylor) and Katie (Kevin Parkhurst). Lloyd was the only brother of Henrietta (Schumann, Nelson, Dickie, Glaus) of Kent, Ohio, and Brenda (Schumann, Spadaro) of Madison, Ohio. Lloyd and Trudy not only had beloved nieces and nephews but was “Grandpa & Grandma” to many.
A Private Graveside Service will be at Saybrook Cemetery which will be held at the family’s discretion.
