ASHTABULA — Frederick William McClure, age 76, of East 47th St., Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Dubois, Pa., the son of Clifford and Ada (Kennard) McClure. After graduating from St. Catherine’s High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps. On June 10, 1960, he married the love of his life, Phyllis (Verona), and they moved to Ashtabula to raise their family.

Prior to his retirement, he worked over 30 years for ESAB.

Fred was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, and the VFW Post #943.

A true family-man, his grandchildren were his life and his family came first in everything he did. He loved Wednesday morning breakfast and coffee at “The Lunch Box” with his ESAB buddies ,with whom he has stayed very close to since he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Verona); three children, Todd (Rebecca) McClure of Painesville, Scott (Paula) McClure of Ashtabula and Sharon (Scott) Barber of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Megan and Shawn McClure, Matthew and Molly Barber, and Ryan and Rachael McClure; three sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Dinger of Ashtabula, Joan “Joey” (Jerry) Jones of Cincinnati and Nancy (John) Senecal of Coffeyville, Kan.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, James and Thomas McClure; sister, Patricia Sharkey; and his parents.

Calling Hours will be TODAY, Wednesday, July 24th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 25th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Fr. Raymond Thomas will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula, with Full Military Honors provided by the American Legion, Dewey Howlett Post #103.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve, especially Dr. Dan Ganzhorn, Sister Laurie Divoky, and nurses, Stacey, Mary and Linda, for the wonderful care they have given to Fred.
