GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — Thomas Barnes Sr. was born June 25, 1931, in Woodlawn, S.C. to Robert and Lavette Barnes. He lived 82 years and passed away while peacefully sleeping on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.
He received his primary education in South Carolina; his BS Degree in Political Science at Cal State University Northridge, and his Jurist Doctorate at Cal State University Berkeley. He served his country as a Marine in World War II and the Korean War.
He met Hazel Ruth Mullen in San Diego, and took her as his bride in 1956. They moved to Los Angeles and were blessed with four children: Thomas Jr. of South Carolina, LaVette Elizabeth (Michael) Hennigan of Ohio, Cheryl Collette Manuel and Robert LeRoy (Kim), both of California. He leaves the legacy of a full life to his four children, seven grandchildren (La Chane’, Christina (‘Baker’), twins Melanie and [Marquis who in 2008 God called to be with himself], Philajon, Christopher, and Robert Jr.), eleven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a dear life friend Ms. Deloris Lewis of California.
A Reflection of Life Ceremony will take place at 1 p.m., and the Viewing from 1:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., both on Monday, August 12th, at RIVERS FUNERAL HOME, 421 Redbank Road, Goose Creek, S.C. 29445. Taps, a flag folding ceremony, honor guard, and the burial will be at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C. on Tuesday, August 13th at 11 a.m.
