WEST LAWN, Pa. — Robert Fitch Berg, born Dec. 14, 19142, in Ashtabula, Ohio, son of Arthur V. Berg and Lois (Fitch) Berg, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, in St. Joseph Medical Center in West Lawn, Pa.

Robert graduated from Ashtabula High School. He passed the test for becoming a ham radio operator on his first attempt at age 14. He graduated from DeVry University.

A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Viet Nam. While there the radio station that was to bring news and music to our troops was bombed out by the enemy. Bob volunteered to go out and rebuild the station, which was bombed out again the following day. He returned to again put the radio station into service, for which he was later awarded the Bronze Star.

Bob married Terese Putman and they celebrated 26 years together. They resided in West Lawn, Pa.

Bob was senior electrical designer at Gai Tronics and had many electronic devices that were patented by the company. In earlier years, he served as trouble shooter traveling to many places in that capacity.

He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife, Terese; he is survived by two brothers, Richard (Elsie) Berg and Donald Berg, both of Ashtabula; and nephew, Paul Berg of Painesville, Ohio. He also left behind two beloved cats “Jake and Fluffy”.

It was suggested that donations might be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163.
