LAKE WALES, Fla. — Joanne Finney Armington Hadlock, of Austinburg, Ohio, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at her home.
She was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harold P. Finney and Anna “Ruth” Finney. Joanne graduated from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio in 1957.
After graduating, she taught for two years in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. During that time, she met her late husband George E. Armington Jr. whom she married in 1959. They moved to Austinburg where George Jr. was a farmer and started their family. Joanne and her husband enjoyed involvement and travel with the Classic Car Club. They also participated in a group called the Country Clubbers where food and friendship were shared with fellow farmers. Joanne’s husband, George Jr., died suddenly in 1978. She married Richard Hadlock in 1980.
Joanne’s most admirable quality was her kindness and generosity of spirit. She volunteered at Homesafe, a safe house for battered women in Ashtabula and at The Manor, a home in Geneva for disabled men. She served as a volunteer at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, as a trustee at the Grand River Academy in Austinburg, and was on the board of the Ashtabula Arts Center where she was a great supporter.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many people. She will be missed tremendously.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Richard Hadlock; her sister, Carol Wipper; her sister-in-law, Marge Armington; her children, Deborah (Ralph) Armington-Ranowiecki, Robert “Bob” (Diane) Armington, George (Jeannine) Armington III, Harold (Heather) Armington and Charles (Stephanie) Armington; her grandchildren, Douglas Armington, Georgene Beals, Lee Pop, David Armington Moore, Clare Armington, Harold Arthur Armington, Fred Armington, Emily Armington, Joanna Armington and Amelia Armington; and her great-grandchildren, Victoria Armington, Parker Armington, Destiny Armington, Hayden Beals and Tyler Beals.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean McFarren.
A Celebration of Joanne’s Life will be held at the First United Church of Christ in Austinburg, 2870 SR 307, Austinburg, Ohio, on Saturday, July 27th, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Candace Thomas, Pastor officiating.
