ERIE, Pa. — Former Conneaut, Ohio resident, William B. Mallory, age 96, of Niagara Village, Erie, Pa., died Friday morning, July 19, 2013, at Edinboro Manor in Edinboro, Pa.

He was born May 5, 1917, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Frank and Florence (Brown) Mallory. A Conneaut resident most of his life, Bill was a graduate of Conneaut High School and attended The Ohio State University where he was a member of the marching band.

He worked as a clerk in the yard office of the Nickel Plate Railroad for over 30 years retiring in 1972. Following his retirement, Bill and his wife Margaret wintered in Port Charlotte, Fla., where he was active in the Navy League, Kiwanis and the Power Squadron. He moved to Erie in 2003.

He was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Conneaut, and a former member of the Conneaut Moose Club, Elks, and Kiwanis. Always interested in the out of doors, he was a master gardener. He was very involved with Boy Scouts Troup #34, and on the Council and District levels and received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service. In addition to gardening, he enjoyed biking, hiking in the woods and fishing.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary (William) Newbury of Mentor, Ohio, Jane E. Mallory of New Haven, Conn. and Virginia (John) Dodge of Edinboro, Pa.; two sons, Charles (Joanne) Mallory of Sammamish, Wash. and James (Kris) Mallory of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Robert Newbury, Kenn Newbury, Kathy Hufford, Tara Dodge, Russell Mallory, Nicole Mallory and Rachael Mallory;  and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret L. Mallory in 1991; and a brother, Robert Mallory.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 23rd, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Joyce Shellhammer, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troup #34 or the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
