COLUMBUS — Clyde William Lapham, age 88, died Thursday afternoon at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Clyde was born on Dec. 16, 1924, in Perry, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde and Frankie (Elliott) Lapham. A 1942 graduate of Perry High School, he married Elaine Thomas on Sept. 10, 1949.

A Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1985, he retired from Reliance Electric where he had worked as an inspector for 32 years.

He was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church for many years and a member of Mason’s and El Kadir Grotto. 

He enjoyed watching all sports, golfing, fishing, camping, woodworking and reading.

He is survived by his beautiful wife, Elaine (Thomas) Lapham, with whom he shared 64 precious years; four children, Barbara (Ross) Gillespie of Tazewell, Va., Diann (Randy) Priest of Newark, Ohio, Bill (Carol) Lapham of North Kingsville and Jon (Sally) Lapham of Conifer, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Mariah (Dustin) Goodin of Newark, Ohio, Chelsie Priest of Charleston, S.C., Elizabeth Priest of Newark, Ohio, Joe (Gretchen) Lapham of Commerce City, Colo., Jessica (Jarred) Hricovec of North Kingsville, Courtnie Lapham of Greeley, Colo., and Thomas Lapham of Conifer, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Will and Jack Lapham of Commerce City, Colo., and Amelia Hricovec of North Kingsville; and cousin, Pauline Bowlus of Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lila Lapham; and a brother, James Lapham.

A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, July 14th, at the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Drive, Ashtabula, with Pastor Shane Nanney officiating. Burial will take place in Edgewood Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Drive, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or to a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
