ORWELL — Eugene “Gene” L. Wagner, age 66, of Southington, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Warren, Ohio.
Born in Bristolville, Ohio, on August 9, 1946, he was a son of the late Duerelle “Bud” Wagner and Mildred A. Papale (née: Easton).
For 5 or 6 years, Gene worked on a farm in Western Pennsylvania in the late 50's and early 60's. When he returned to Ohio, he worked in the logging industry with Chuck Mansfield. He also did cross country hauling for several years. He then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked as a heavy equipment repairman. Following his brothers invitation, he joined Machinex Corporation where he did service work on Hitachi Seiki machine tools for ten years.
In 2002, he returned to Ohio to take care of his mother until her passing in 2008. He enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and roses. He enjoyed fishing in his earlier years, as well as showing horses and the many horse pulling contests at many county fairs in N.E. Ohio. The past 1-1/2 years was spent doing what made him the happiest, visiting with the Krieg family at their farm in Colebrook, Ohio.
He will be missed by friends and family in Ohio, as well as Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann W. Prather, husband Michael; and grandson, Drake; siblings: Leroy Krieg of Phoenix, Ariz., Eileen Fetz of Minnesota, Roger Krieg and Martha Burger, both of Warren, Ohio, and Diane Longstreph of Cortland, Ohio; and various nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Methodist Church in Colebrook, Ohio, on Saturday, May 11th, starting at 12 p.m., Noon, with a luncheon to follow at the Church Hall.
