VENICE, Fla. — Betty Harriett Olson, age 90, of Venice, Fla., formerly of North Kingsville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
She was born August 22, 1923, in Ashtabula, Ohio, graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1941 and worked as a bookkeeper at Union Carbide until her marriage to Richard Olson in 1949.
Betty and Richard raised their children, Judith and Christine, in North Kingsville. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, she was an active member of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church and worked alongside her husband and family at Olson's Bakery.
After moving to Florida in 1969, Betty volunteered her time to the Venice Hospital Auxiliary and Venice Meals on Wheels, and was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church; she was dedicated to helping others throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Carl and Betty Johnson; brothers, Herman and Burt Johnson; sisters, Ethel Johnson and Hazel Yarletts; and her niece, Peggy Bjerstedt.
She was survived by her daughters, Judith Olson and Christine Batchelor, both of Venice, Fla.; granddaughter, Kathryn Amendolia of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandson, Philip Batchelor of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandson, Dominic Amendolia; nephews, Tom and Alan Yarletts of Columbus, Ohio and David Yarletts of Sarasota, Fla.; and a niece, Joanna Prillman of Sun City West, Ariz.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at a later date.
