ASHTABULA — James John Carney Jr., age 70, of Ashtabula, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 11, 2013, in Concord Township at the home of his daughter.
Born Jan. 31, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of James and Agnes (Sarridge) Carney Sr. Jim graduated from St. Mary’s Manor High School in Penndel, Pa. and was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam and earning a Bronze Star. On Oct. 28, 1972, he married the former A. Carol Lignetta in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Carney was the owner operator of Roto Rooter of Ashtabula County.
Survivors include his son, James J. (Molly M.) Carney III of Ashtabula; daughter, Michele (Nicholas W.) Detore of Concord Township; grandchildren, Caitlyn E. Carney, Nicholas J. Detore and Meghan C. Detore; and sisters, Michele F. Carney and Claudia (Richard) Page, both of Columbus, Ohio .
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carol Carney.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon, Saturday, Dec. 14th, in Our Lady of Peace Parish Mount Carmel Church, with Fr. Ernesto Rodriquez officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, with Military Honors being conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard Team from Post 103.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Today, Dec. 13th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
