BELVIDERE, Ill. — LaVerne June Willis Meivogel, age 78, of Belvidere, Ill., died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at home.

She was born on June 13, 1934, in Somerset, Pa., the daughter of Clyde and Leah (Fritz) Willis. LaVerne lived in the Geneva, Ohio area most of her life working and raising a family. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1952 and married John Meivogel.

She was employed as a waitress for 18 years at The Old Tavern in Unionville, Ohio. John and LaVerne relocated to Michigan City, Ind., where they lived for 18 years. For six years, she was a receptionist at the Medical Group while operating her own dog boarding business. After John’s retirement, they returned to Geneva, Ohio. John passed away July 3, 2003.

Her love of all animals led her to 4-H and her participation in many Lake County Fairs working with horses. She enjoyed karaoke singing at the VFW and Eagles clubs in Geneva and Ashtabula, Ohio, with her lifelong friend, Bill Roskelly. She was an active member of the Tops Club in Geneva and through the years, several very good friends kept in contact with her.

In 2011, Bill and LaVerne relocated to Science Hill, Ky., where they spent a quiet retirement with their pets Missy, Zoey, Peanut and Tinker. After Bill’s passing, LaVerne moved to Belvidere, Ill. in August, 2012, and spent the remainder of her life with her daughter and family. Her family was her greatest source of joy and she never failed to show us all how much she loved us.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Eric Olsen) of Belvidere, Ill. and Belinda Meivogel of Geneva, Ohio; grandchildren, Jamie (Jen) Meivogel and Trisha (Greg) Cyzyk, both of Geneva and Adam and Alicyn McCully, both of Belvidere, Ill.; great-grandchildren – All her love for you, Haley, Cameron, Vanessa and William; brother, Blair Willis of Tidioute, Pa.; and a sister, Dorothy White of Austinburg, Ohio.

Predeceased by parents; husband, John; brother, Robert Willis; and three sons, John Meivogel Jr., John Richard Meivogel and James Wayne Meivogel.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 6th, at WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, Ohio 44041.
