ASHTABULA — Robert Mann Emmett, age 84, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Saybrook Landing.

The son of Clair and Ruth (Mann) Emmett, he was born on Jan. 21, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio and had remained a lifelong resident. On Nov. 16, 1946, Bob married the love of his life, Betty Jean Sunagel, and together celebrated nearly sixty-four years of marriage before her death on July 23, 2010.

Bob was proud Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II, where he was stationed in Okinawa. Having his grandson, Nathan, continue the tradition made him quite proud.

For thirty five years Bob was a truck driver for Bell Transit where he earned the distinction of driving 3,000,000 miles without having an accident. He had been honored for his longevity with Bell Transit, by being inducted into their company “Hall of Fame”. Bob’s driving partner for all those many miles was cousin, Frank Mann. They were quite a team.

Bob was a sixty year member of Plymouth Grange, a member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department where he served as president for five years, and has been a lifelong member of Plymouth Community United Methodist Church; as well as a member of the Teamster union and the Retired Teamster’s Club. Bob and Betty enjoyed camping and being with family and friends.

Bob will be remembered for his devotion to his church and his family. He was pleased to have had the opportunity to welcome the newest member of the Emmett family, his great-grandson, Braylon Pinny.

He is survived by his two sons, Terry Lee (Daphne) Emmett of Austin, Texas and Jeffery Allen Emmett of Ashtabula; daughter, Shelly Marie Emmett Spaller of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Second Class Petty Officer Nathan Miles Emmett, Christie L. Pinny and Darrell Shawn Emmett; great-grandson, Braylon Pinny; his beloved cousin, brother and friend, Frank Mann and his wife, Ginny; and a brother-in-law, Tom Durkin of Ashtabula.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jean; granddaughter, Jennifer Emmett; his sister, June Durkin; and his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held 12 Noon, Sunday, Jan. 20th, at Plymouth United Methodist Church, 970 Plymouth Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Johnnie Swann, Pastor, officiating.
