CONNEAUT — Laura Jeanne Martin, age 89, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at her home.
She was born August 20, 1923, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Thayer) Crofoot and had been a life-long area resident between Ashtabula, Madison and Conneaut. A 1941 graduate of Harbor High School, she married the love of her life, Laurence Martin on August 28, 1943.
Primarily a homemaker, she worked at Carlisle’s during her younger years before she was married.
An avid reader and excellent cook, she enjoyed Big Band music and being social, attending many activities with her husband at the Geneva Eagles and the Ashtabula Yacht Club. She was also a huge Cleveland Indians fan.
She is survived by daughters, Merry “Kathy” Katherine (Robert) Benjamin of Ashtabula and Margaret “Peggy” Anne (Jerry) Wilfong of Conneaut; grandchildren, Marjorie Benjamin (and her companion, Larry Baker and his daughter, Karlyn) of Jefferson and April (Bill) Wilson of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and one great-grandson, Nathan Gray of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence H. Martin on March 3, 2010; two sisters, Mary J. Whiting and Esther T. Crofoot; one brother, Thayer Crofoot; and her parents.
A private graveside service will be held at Saybrook Cemetery.
