GENEVA — Howard E. Walker, age 85, former Jefferson resident, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his residence on Cromwell Ave. in Geneva, following a short illness.
He was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Steamberg (Denmark Township), the son of Harold E. and Bertha I. (Leonard) Walker and was a resident of Jefferson all of his life before moving to Geneva six years ago. Mr. Walker was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was married to Ethel M. Peach on June 1, 1951 in Andover.
Mr. Walker worked at Raiser Tannery for 30 years, then retired in 1982 after nine years at Smith & Wesson Corp. Following retirement, he worked part time at Channel Products in Jefferson.
He was a member of the former I.O.O.F. in Jefferson and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and walking his dog.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; four children, Robert J. Peach of Hartstown, Pa., Judy A. (Ron) Springborn of Madison, Peggy L. (Chris) Flack of Ashtabula and David A. (Lori) Walker of Neenah, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Kray of Geneva and Doris (Richard) Rider of Cherry Valley Township; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cal and Alfred Walker; and a sister, Mildred Bates.
A Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 24th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
Following Visitation on Sunday, a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the home of Peggy and Chris Flack, 3911 Liberty St., Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery.
