DORSET TOWNSHIP — Esther L. Benich, age 78, of Footville-Richmond Road, Dorset Township, died Monday morning, Dec. 23, 2013, at her residence.
She was born August 3, 1935, in Westport, Mass., the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Brayton) Lawton and had been a resident of this area most of her adult life. She was married to Richard F. Benich on Oct. 11, 1959, in Westport, Mass.
Mrs. Benich attended both Kent State University and Youngstown State University. She was a teacher in the Pymatuning Valley School System, retiring after 34 years of service. She was a member of the Dorset United Methodist Church, the NEOEA and the Golden Thimbles 4-H Club. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and volunteered for the Kindergarten class.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; three children, Richard (Heidi) Benich of Plymouth, Harold Benich of Meadville, Pa. and Ellen (Joseph) Rulo of Stow; six grandchildren; and siblings, Grace Sylvia and Richard Lawton, both of Westport, Mass.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Dorset United Methodist Church, St. Rt. 193, Dorset, with the Rev. David Miller, of Dorset United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dorset United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 76, Dorset, Ohio 44032 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, envelopes will be at both the funeral home and church.
