PAINESVILLE — John A. Kangas, age 87, a resident of Painesville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
He was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Painesville, to Amelia (Kalio) and Augusta Kangas. He married Ellen Burtt on June 7, 1945 in Painesville, Ohio. John was proud to have served in the US Army during WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
John retired from the Ohio Rubber Company after 40 years of service. He loved fishing as well as traveling with his wife and friends to the casinos and the horse races. A strong, loving, gentle man of faith, he was passionate about God and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ellen Kangas of Painesville; daughter, Linda Peterson of Painesville; sons, John (Betty) Kangas of Beavercreek and Ken (Cindy) Kangas of Leroy; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Augusta and Amelia Kangas; four brothers, Art, Oni, Ed and Ben; sister, Helen Shahan; and brothers-in-law; Don Burtt and Don Kegel.
Memorial Service will be 12 Noon, Monday, Nov. 5th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Bowhall Road, Painesville.
