Douglas Stoneman Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 Star Beacon CONNEAUT — Kenard Douglas Stoneman, age 72, of West Main Road, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 24, 2008.
Born on March 11, 1936, in Ivanhoe, Va., he was the son of Eugene and Gladys (Richardson) Stoneman After graduating from Ashtabula High School, Doug attended Bliss Business School in Columbus and then he went on to serve in the Army National Guard. He worked as a Production Superintendent for Rockwell International for many years. He later proved to be a spirited entrepreneur who over the years opened and operated several successful businesses including a tanning salon, a second hand retail store, a family restaurant, and a mobile food service business. Most recently, Mr. Stoneman was employed with the Star Beacon. Doug loved to fish, bowl, and spend time outdoors. He was an artist and an avid coin collector. He loved to sing, but unfortunately rarely knew the words and could not carry tune to save his life. He is fondly remembered as a hard working supporter to his family, and a trusted and loyal friend to those fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his four children, Kathi and Stan Dean of Roscoe, Ill., Steve Stoneman of Boulder, Colo., Thomas Stoneman of Ashtabula, and Tracy Stoneman of Rockford, Ill.; two grandchildren, Jared and Justin Dean; one great-granddaughter, Alex Dean; his brother, Randall and Liz Stoneman of Ashtabula; and his sister, Nancy Carol Rey of Boca Raton, Fla. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Eugene Stoneman; his sister Carolyn Long; and his parents. A Graveside Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29th, at Ridgeview Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Roberts will officiate. Contributions may be made to Happy Hearts School, 2505 South Ridge Road East, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
