JEFFERSON — Lyle M. Hodge, age 97, of Lenox-New Lyme Road, New Lyme Twp., died Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2009, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center, where he had been a patient the past six weeks.
He was born March 13, 1912, in New Lyme Twp., the son of Merle J. & Millie (Brockway) Hodge and has lived in New Lyme Twp. all his life.
He was a graduate of Rome High School. He married Elsie J. Lisy on August 29, 1936, in Newburg Hts., Ohio. While growing up he was involved, then as a partner and owner of Hodge Brothers Dairy Farm all of his life, retiring in 1980.
He was a 75 year plus member of the Rome Grange, then the Jefferson Grange and served on the New Lyme School Board. He loved farming and along with his father, built many of the red brick silos in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; two children, Sally A. (Larry) Carr and Warren F. Hodge, both of New Lyme Twp.; two grandchildren, Scott A. (Lorrie) Turner of Jefferson and Lee Ann (David) Wendell of Ashtabula; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Turner and Melissa and Bob Wendell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Julia Williams, MaeBelle Otto and Myrtle Olmsted; and a brother, Fred Hodge.
Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 30th, at the Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. James Link, of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. Noon until time of Service, Tuesday, at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ashtabula Co. Extension Office for the use of scholarships, 39 Wall St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
