ERIE — Virginia S. Bagnall, age 88, of Main St., Conneaut, died in the early morning hours on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. She had recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 30, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Caroline (Ruccolo) Campanelli. A lifelong resident of Conneaut, she graduated from Conneaut High School in 1939.
She was a member of St. Mary/St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
After high school graduation, Mrs. Bagnall worked at the Goldette. She retired from Premix in 1986 after 19 years. She enjoyed working at Premix, and always commented “I wish I were still there.” She was proud of her Italian heritage and background. She enjoyed dining out, attending book sales, shopping, flea markets and collecting elephant figurines and birds. The most important passion of her life was reading. She thoroughly enjoyed historical romances.
She is survived by her son, John Anthony Bagnall of Conneaut; her daughter, Carol Jean Bagnall of Conneaut; her sister, Edith (Archie) Trizna of Conneaut; two grandchildren, Linda Pollard of Phoenix, Ariz. and Diane Bagnall of North Kingsville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Anthony and Andrew; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John I. “Jack” Bagnall in 2008; her son, Thomas Louis Bagnall in 1991; her brother, Dominic A. Campanelli in 1998; and sisters, Mary Tavone, Antoinette Raisian and Santa Gravino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, June 29th, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas, pastor of St. Mary/St. Frances Cabrini Churches, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 28th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, where arrangements are being handled.
