ASHTABULA — Elliott A. Smith, age 89, died Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Country Club Retirement Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 25, 1920, in Plymouth Township, the son of Owen and Mary (Anderson) Smith. He was a graduate of Ashtabula High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during W.W.II, receiving several medals.
Elliott and his wife, Jean, founded E&J Glass in 1949. He retired to Sebastian, Fla., in 1976 and returned to Ashtabula in 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his three daughters, Sandy (David) Andes, Mary Ellen (Rick) Mock and Kathy (Ed) Taylor, all of Ashtabula; one son, Darrell (Candy) of Sebring, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Crockett) Smith on Jan. 2, 2009; one son, Richard Smith in infancy; a brother, CL Smith; a sister, Ocibell Grandbouche; and his parents.
A Private Family Service will be held Thursday, June 25th, at the family grave site in Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
