JEFFERSON — Mildred M. “Millie’ Irby, age 92, of E. Cedar St., Jefferson, Ohio, died Saturday morning, June 20, 2009, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center where she has resided the past three years.
She was born May 16, 1917, in Jefferson, the daughter of Paul R. and Alice (Isaacson) Martin and has been a lifelong resident of Jefferson.
For more than 50 years, Millie and her late husband, Edgar Irby, owned and operated Elvin’s Jewelry Store in Jefferson. She retired in 1989.
She was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church; Sunshine Chapter #89 O. E. S., where she served as Worthy Matron; and the Covered Bridge Chapter #591 O. E. S. Her special enjoyment was her great-nieces and nephews.
Survivors include three brothers and one sister, John R. “Jack” Martin of Omaha, Neb., June L. Martin of Hamden Township, James E. Martin of Wheaton, Ill., and DeWayne L. Martin of Hamden Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar; sisters, Dorothy Martin, Eleanor Corbett, Frances Holtzheimer, Marrianne Owsley, Jeanne Childs and Edna Martin; and a brother, George R. Martin.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26th, at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson Healthcare Center Activities Dept., 222 E. Beech St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047.
