Published May 14, 2008 09:00 pm - Thursday, May 15, 2008 ASHTABULA — Gunter Paul Miggo, age 73, a resident of Chapel Road for the past 43 years, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic. Gunter P. Miggo Thursday, May 15, 2008 Star Beacon ASHTABULA — Gunter Paul Miggo, age 73, a resident of Chapel Road for the past 43 years, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born December 23, 1934, in Deutsch Eylau, Germany, the son of Paul and Hilda (Schamp) Miggo, and he immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Ashtabula in 1952. Prior to his retirement, he worked 10 years for Arrow Glass and previously worked 18 years as a warehouse manager for Coca-Cola. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Germany as an interpreter for the company commander. A member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the American Legion, his number one priority was his family, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed yard work, spending time with his family, and cooking (especially his fabulous soups). Gunter was known for his kind and giving nature. He had a big heart and was always eager to lend a helping hand. His survivors include his wife, Janet (Brayman) Miggo, whom he married May 3, 1959; three sons, Scott (Susan) Miggo of New Albany, Steve (Kathy) Miggo of Granville, and Dave (Melissa) Miggo of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Amanda, Liza, and Ruby; two brothers, Hans Miggo of Ashtabula and Wolfgang Miggo of Berlin Center; two sisters, Helga Doliber of Alpine, Calif., and Betty Osborne of Ashtabula; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-mother, Elsie Miggo. A Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Allison Milligan, Pastor of Austinburg First United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, North Kingsville. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 16 at the Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the American Diabetes Association. www.ducro.com
