Syguda, age 81 of Ashtabula, Ohio, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the home of her daughter in Jefferson, Ohio.
Born September 1,1926, in Jamne, Dist. Of Kaminonka Galizia, Poland, she was the daughter of Andrzej and Paraskiewa (Mokrycka) Nowosad. At the age of fifteen, during the Nazi occupation of Poland, she was sent away from her family to Germany to work on a German farm, as a slave laborer. At the end of the war, she met her future husband, Peter Syguda at a displaced person camp in Germany. In 1949, she immigrated to America with her husband and daughter. She enjoyed gardening, polka music, bingo and feeding the birds. Survivors include her two children, Christine A. (Troy) Bailey of Jefferson and Edward P. Syguda of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Bailey and Jordan and Aaron Syguda. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter in 1957; and by a daughter, Irene in infancy. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday May 14, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Catholic Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, with the Rev. Father Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Saybrook Township. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson . Memorial contributions, in her memory, can be made to the Animal Protective League or the Catholic Relief Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
