LeRoy Sunday, May 11, 2008 Star Beacon FAIRPORT HARBOR — Jeanne Elizabeth ( née Nazor) LeRoy, age 83, formerly of Ashtabula,Ohio, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Born March 14, 1925, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Howard M. and Esther E. (Lang) Nazor. She lived in Ashtabula from 1925 to 1951, before moving to the greater Cleveland area, for the remainder of her life. A graduate of Ashtabula High School, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Lake Erie College in 1947, and her Master’s in Education from Smith University, in 1948. Jeanne taught kindergarten for several years in the Orange school district in Chagrin Falls, before her marriage to Milton J. LeRoy, Jr., on July 14, 1951, after which she dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker. Mrs. LeRoy grew up as a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, and later was active for many years in the choirs of Fairmount Presbyterian Church, and the Rocky River Presbyterian Church. She devoted many years of service to Lake Erie College, serving on numerous committees including, for a time, chairman of the scholarship committee. More recently, she was the chairman of the committee to raise funds to restore the historic Skinner Pipe Organ and the Morley Music Hall. She continued her commitment to children by serving as a volunteer at the nursery school run by the Rocky River Presbyterian Church. Her survivors include three sons, Jeffrey M. (wife Jolene) of Aurora, Ill, Scott G. of Boulder, Colo., and James H. of Roswell, Ga.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, with a second due in October. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton J. LeRoy, Jr., on June 11, 1995; one brother, Gordon Nazor; and her parents. A calling hour will be 12 noon to 1 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2008, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, with a service to follow at 1 p.m., at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Lake Erie College Skinner Pipe Organ Endowment Fund, or the American Cancer Society. www.ducro.com
