W. COVINA, Calif. — Stephen Vincent Cerni, age 52, of W. Covina, Calif., died unexpectedly Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home.
Born May 2, 1956, in Meadville, Pa., he was the son of John P. and Margaret Cerni, and graduated from Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High School, in 1974. He received a B. E. in Mechanical Engineering, from Youngstown State University in 1979.
Steve worked as an engineer for several years at B. F. Goodrich, then joined his father as General Manager of Cerni Motors, in Ashtabula. He married Dr. Mary Caizza in 1984, and they moved to Southern California in 1987. He worked as a Fleet Truck sales manager, most recently at Clippinger/West Covina Motors, in W. Covina.
Steve Cerni was a devoted father and supportive husband. His work was a source of great challenge and satisfaction for him, and he approached it with zeal. He enjoyed savoring the finest things life had to offer, and loved spending time with his children and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary (Caizza) Cerni; two children, Max and Mary Grace Cerni; his mother, Margaret Cerni; three sisters, Bridget Ferrat, Alice (Rick) Adams, and Cathy (Kenneth) Ray; six brothers, John P. (Carol) Cerni, II, Jospeh A. Cerni, Charles (Sheryl) Cerni, Mark (Beth) Cerni, Raymond Cerni, and Thomas M. (Christine) Cerni; sister-in-law, Susan Morocco Cerni; and many nephews, nieces, and their families.
Funeral Services will be at FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK AND MORTUARIES, 21300 Via Verde Dr., Covina, Calif. 1-800-204-3131. Funeral Service will be Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m., at the Forest Lawn Church. Details can be found at www.forestlawn.com, in the service locator area.
Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m., at the Forest Lawn Covina Hills Memory Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the Cerni family requests that you make a donation to Damien High School, 2280 Damien Ave., La Verne, Calif. 91750 or St. Lucy’s Priory High School, 655 W. Sierra Madre Ave., Glendora, Calif. 91741.
Checks should be made out to the school’s name, with memo “Stephen V. Cerni Scholarship Fund”, for both schools.
