Johnson, age 80, a resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, for 64 years, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Southpointe Hospital in Cleveland. Richard C. Johnson Thursday, May 8, 2008 Star Beacon CHESTERLAND — Richard C. Johnson, age 80, a resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, for 64 years, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Southpointe Hospital in Cleveland.
Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Ashtabula, he was a son to Oscar and Karin (Larson) Johnson and graduated from Edgewood High School. He married Merelyn (Matthews), July 22, 1949. A Veteran, Richard served in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1987 from the Illuminating Co., as Credit Manager. Mr. Johnson was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Eagles 408 of Palmetto, Fla. He enjoyed cards, shooting pool and is remembered as a craftsman, who enjoyed woodworking, square dancing and spending time with his family. His optimistic energy, patience, kindness, quick wit, and generosity to all, created a comfortable and fun-filled presence that touched everyone he met. Survivors include his wife, Merelyn; a daughter, Wren (Ray) Cavender of Perry; a son, Richard (Carol) Johnson of Chesterland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Karin; a brother, Roland (Donna) of Willoughby; and a sister, Agnes (Walter) Higgins of Ashtabula. A Memorial Service is being planned at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 250 Bowhall Road, Painesville, Ohio, on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the Stephen Ministry Program at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
