Shedaker, age 82, of Cummins Ave., Conneaut, Ohio, died at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Mary C. Shedaker Friday, May 2, 2008 Star Beacon CONNEAUT — Mary C. Shedaker, age 82, of Cummins Ave., Conneaut, Ohio, died at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.
Born on July 12, 1925, in Elizabeth, N.J., she was a daughter to the late Frank and Hazel Edith Smith Witzel. She was a graduate of Wicomico High School, Salisbury, Md., where she was Valedictorian of her Class. She also graduated " Summa Cum Laude " with a Bachelors Degree in Education from Rutgers University and received her Master's Degree from Temple University, as a Reading Specialist. She taught for twenty five years in the New Jersey Public School System, retiring in 1984 from the Cherry Hill School District. She spent most of her professional career devoted to the teaching of children with learning disabilities. Mrs. Shedaker was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Ashtabula, Ohio, and was very active, as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Donald ( Kathleen )Thomas, Conneaut, Ohio; a son, Stanley S. Shedaker, Jr. and his wife, Rachael, of Salisbury, Md.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Smith Shedaker, whom she married in 1944, and who died in 2001; and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, with Fr. David Evans, Cannon of the church, officiating, and the Rev. Barbara Johnson, former Rector of the church, co-officiating. No Calling hours will be observed. Cremation. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m., until the funeral hour in the Guild Room of the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the church, in Mrs. Shedaker honor, or to the Mercer County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, Pa. 16148.
