Mystified by Kasich

I am a bit confused these days. Or, maybe the world is a bit topsy-turvy.

I can’t quite figure out where Ohio Gov. John Kasich is coming from. These days he sounds like a tax crazed liberal.

Well, we do know he came to Ohio from the conservative world of Fox Cable News Network.  Before that he was a rising conservative star in Congress. There  is nothing wrong in either case.

When he came to be Ohio’s chief executive, meaning the governor, he acted in an appropriate conservative manner... attempting to cut  expenses  by going after collective-bargaining rights of public employees. He failed, but he gave it the good fight.

Overall, he has exhibited fairly decent leadership skills and his rising polling numbers are reflecting this.

What seems to go against the grain though is his attempt to increase taxes under the guise of  spreading out the state sales tax to areas heretofore free of these taxes.

For example, he wants to tax the ticket you purchase to see a Friday night high school football game, or a Saturday afternoon college football or basketball game. He also wants to charge a tax on legal work as well as work performed by a certified public accountant.

Other areas he wants to tax includes advertising  as found on TV, through agencies, newspapers  billboards, radio, etc.  That sales tax also would apply to the fee agencies charge their clients.

Kasich seems unabashed in driving the cost up of doing business in Ohio.

I wonder if this tax will be in effect when Kasich runs for re-election as governor and has to pay for millions of dollars worth of advertising? What do you think?

  • Gun control

One would think the hottest topics going these days are who will replace Pope Benedict XVI, who resigned Friday, and the sequester.
The sequester, ignites automatic budget cuts to the tune of about $85 billion.
