ASHTABULA - - A grand opening for the Ashtabula County Democratic headquarters will be held Monday afternoon, according to a statement.
Several Democratic candidates for office this fall will attend. The ceremony starts at 5 p.m. at the office, located at 2211 Lake Ave., in the Ashtabula Plaza.
"While the Democratic party headquarters serves as the staging ground for campaign activity, it also proves to be an excellent introduction to the challenges of public service for many of our volunteers," said Duane Feher, chairman. "We find our volunteers gain insight into government, governing and the serious issues that confront our citizens and communities."
Attending the ceremony will be William O'Neill, 11th District Court of Appeals judge seeking a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court; and Lew Katz, 14th Congressional district candidate. Other office-seekers expected to attend include Dan Claypool and Roger Corlett, Ashtabula County commissioner and auditor hopefuls, respectively; Mary Jane Trapp and Conneaut Municipal Court Judge Thomas Harris, candidates for the 11th District Court; and State Rep. George Distel, D-Conneaut, who is seeking re-election.
Eastern County Court Judge Robert Wynn, who is unopposed in the fall, will attend, as well as members of the Ashtabula Women Democratic Party organization.
Residents can visit the office to learn more about local, state and federal Democrat candidates and to pick up lawn signs, brochures, voter registration forms and absentee ballot request forms.
Office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For information, call 998-1159 or visit the party's Web site at www.ashtabuladems.org.
