SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — The Kathryn Rose Party Center was the place to be April 25, as Lakeside High School students gathered for a night of dancing and the last “hoorah” for the seniors. It was a fun-filled night and for a second time this year, Christopher Bucci kept the crowd moving and “grooving” all night long. Prom was a night to remember for most, sharing dances, laughs and turns at the chocolate fountain.
“I had a lot of fun at prom. It was a great way to end my senior year,” said Andy DeDomenic, a senior at Lakeside.
Lakeside Choir performed a concert at Lakeside High School May 18. The third annual “Broadway Dinner” took place on May 15, where students involved in choir performed for spectators who had the chance to eat dinner and watch various Broadway numbers in-cluding “Oklahoma” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” We tip our hats to all who made this production a success.
Furthermore, Lakeside Senior Leadership has had yet another successful year, most notably how the majority of students will be receiving a Presidential Cord, which constitutes 100 volunteer hours. The students have been in-volved in numerous senior service learning projects, including the Center of Science and Industry at Washington Elementary School, “Reality Day” at Lakeside Junior High School and the Polar Bear Plunge, to name a few. Along with the senior service learning projects, each student completed a required amount of hours each nine weeks with adviser Lisa Raffa.
Throughout the school year, students volunteered their time at the local YMCA, the GaREAT Complex in Geneva and Ashtabula County Medical Center. Senior Leadership has also volunteered at all elementary schools in the school district, as well as LHS. The most recent project was the annual girl’s powder-puff game, where every class produced a team of female athletes to step onto Lakeside’s turf in a fun game of flag football. This event is not the only activity keeping teams competitive and healthy.
This summer Lakeside sports programs will offer numerous camps and conditioning workouts. Lake-side football will hold its second annual power-lifting meet May 30, in which various schools from across the county will be competing.
The defending Premier Athletic Conference champion volleyball team will be participating in Match-point July 20 to 23 at LHS. Matchpoint is an intense conditioning and skills camp for athletes. The camp is offered for girls in grades nine to 12 along with a junior high camp from July 20 to 21 at LHS. For more information regarding Lakeside volleyball, contact coach Lisa Newsome.
Lakeside basketball will also be keeping busy this summer. Rob Pisano, boy’s varsity basketball coach, will be holding open gyms and having his team participate in shoot-out tournaments and the Perry Summer League.
Rob Livingston, girl’s varsity basketball coach, will be having his team play in the North Shore Summer League while also participating in various summer shoot-outs and weight-lifting programs.
Graduation is coming up faster than ever! Lakeside seniors will receive their diplomas today at the high school. Guest speaker is Susan J. Stocker, dean of the Ashtabula Campus of Kent State University.
