Published April 22, 2009 04:39 pm - On April 3, Ss. John and Paul High School took part in the annual Career Day. Sixth-grade students from Assumption Elementary and Ss. John and Paul Elementary joined high school students from grades seventh through 11th for a prayer service in the morning, five sessions of presentations of careers throughout the day, lunch and activities in the gym in the afternoon. John and Paul High School took part in the annual Career Day. Sixth-grade students from Assumption Elementary and Ss. John and Paul Elementary joined high school students from grades seventh through 11th for a prayer service in the morning, five sessions of presentations of careers throughout the day, lunch and activities in the gym in the afternoon. The prayer service included a performance of the song “Voices that Challenge” by Eastman School of Music graduate and accomplished vocalist Connor O’Brien. The keynote speech was given by Todd Teeter, St. John High School graduate and vice president and general manager of the Moen Corp. There were 22 career presentations to choose from, but students were able to attend only five. The day ended with activities in the gym including a limbo contest, line dancing and a raffle.
Teeter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in management from John Carroll University in 1983 and now works for the Moen’s Wholesale Business unit. Mr. Teeter stressed the importance of passion in life and not only your career. He mentioned his four “Fs”: Faith, Family, Friends and Fun. He believes that those are the four things that he is passionate about and that everyone should be passionate about. He also shared his keys to success: Hard work, Excellence, Action, Resilience, Team and Talent (HEART.) Sophomore Kelsey Harper enjoyed Mr. Teeter’s speech. “I thought that he was a great inspiration to everyone who wants to succeed,” she said. After his speech Mr. Teeter pledged $1,000 in scholarships to principal Albina Larson, then students proceeded to their first presentation of the day. Guests who gave presentations on their careers included Mark Belaney, corrections professional; Ticey Czup, pharmacist; Amy DeGeorge, registered nurse; Nick Detore, physician in training; Nancy DiLoreto, registered dietitian; Shelagh Dubsky, dance director/artistic director; Dr. Cecilia Duffy, chiropractor; Maria Foglio, registered nurse; Dr. Claudio Gallo, surgeon; Dr. Bruce Guido, dermatologist; Dr. Lori Herpen; Mary Beth Lacy, respiratory therapist; Larry Latva, corrections professional; Virginia Miller, attorney; Todd Nagy, architect; Connor O’Brien; Dr. Gregory Roberts, veterinarian; Van Robison, detective; Louis Schiavoni, attorney; John Sundquest, respiratory therapist; Michael Teeter, mechanical engineer; and Laura Kessler, fashion/modeling. “My favorite guest speaker was the pharmacist,” said junior Mikenzie Zullo. “She knew a lot about the field and was very open to See SS.
