ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — During these long, cold winter months, Edgewood students find something to sing about. “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is debuting at ESHS at the end of this month.
Directed by Bill and Maryann Kline, the play consists of more than 50 students and a pit band of about 15 students from Edgewood’s band. They also received choreography help from Cassie Powers. The cast practices Monday through Friday after school until around 6 p.m. and for a few hours on Saturday mornings.
“The show is going to be great. Everyone’s working extra hard to make sure we fill the seats,” said Zach Adkins, who will be playing Jimmy Smith.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” is about a small town girl who moves to the city in search of a more modern life.
“It’s a play filled with comedy, romance… something everyone will want to see. I can’t wait to show our audiences how hard we’ve worked for the past two months. Every second will be worthwhile,” added Corey Woodard, who will play Miss Flannery.
The play will run 7 p.m. Feb. 27; 2 and 7 p.m. Feb. 28; and 2 p.m. March 1. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Good luck to all, and break a leg!
On Jan. 16, principal Karl Williamson requested from superintendent Nancy Williams that Edgewood’s first semester be extended from Jan. 21 to Jan. 23. This decision was made because there were too many snow days too close together at the end of the first semester. The excessive snow days also set teachers back in the completion of final grades. This delayed the mailing of second quarter report cards from its original date, Jan. 29, to Feb. 2.
The second semester has started, marking the seniors’ sprint to the finish. Edgewood seniors have begun preparing for graduation, set to take place on June 3. Seniors have placed the orders for their caps, gowns and tassels. Anticipation is building all throughout the school as our seniors prepare to sport the red and gray on their commencement.
