ANDOVER — January is the end of the first semester and the beginning of the second semester. While the new year began over the break, the new semester is bringing new opportunities and new challenges to Pymatuning Valley High School.
The sophomore class is focusing on the impending Ohio Graduation Tests. These crucial tests are focused around the accumulated work of 10 years of schooling, and these last few months before hand serve as an intense review.
Sophomore English teacher Tracy Gallatin says she plans on continuing to focus steadily on the indicators and to bring some old tests in for review. She continued by stating that PV Schools superintendent Jake Rose is always reminding us to coach the students for the test, and that is what she will be doing in her room.
For seniors, the OGTs are done and over, but a realization of imminent graduation has many asking “What next?” For the seniors at PV, the ability to turn to the teachers, guidance staff and administration for help is a real help.
Principal Jeremy Huber is determined to make sure that all seniors have a real plan. “Near the end of January, I am going to take a day and meet with each and every senior to make sure that they are on the right path,” Mr. Huber said. “We need to make sure that whether it’s college, work, military or whatever their mind is set to, they have a plan.”
Huber intends to be sure that all seniors are passing their classes and getting the paperwork and applications done for all eligible scholarships and other post-graduation plans.
