Even in a season-ending defeat on Tuesday, the Geneva girls exceeded the expectations of many.

There’s an adage in sports that if a team hangs around long enough, it will start to believe.
After a slow start, the Geneva girls basketball team scratched and clawed its way back into its regional semifinal battle with Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary on Tuesday night at Barberton High School. Once in the game, the Eagles began to believe and battled the Fighting Irish nearly every step of the way before falling short, 45-33.
25, going after 26!
The Pymatuning Valley girls basketball team has already rewritten the team’s record book. The Lakers’ however, still have more than add to their legacy they’ve put in place.

With the wrestling and boys basketball seasons having the curtain dropped on them, and with girls basketball season roundin’ third and headed for home, a slight change of pace would be welcomed with open arms.

Many people outside the Geneva basketball program were overlooking the Eagles coming into the 2013-14 season. Coach Nancy Barbo’s flock, however, grew and matured into as formidable a squad as Barbo has ever coached.
