Blue Streaks roll Warriors

Madison mauls Edgewood

MADISON TOWNSHIP — There’s no secret to beating the Madison girls basketball team. Handle the press and take care of the basketball.

Two things that are easier said than done as the Blue Streaks showed Saturday afternoon in beating Edgewood, 86-30, at Madison.

“Well, obviously Madison with their pressure, the focal point is to handle Madison's pressure,” Edgewood head coach Dave McCoy said.

Madison (4-1) forced 40 turnovers and stole the ball from the Warriors 27 times.

“I just want this fresh in their minds, and the next time we play a tough team, not (get) the same result,” McCoy said.

“(We need to) correct fundamentals, (get) back to basics.”

All 11 Blue Streaks who played recorded at least one of the team’s 45 rebounds, 10 of them scored and nine of them recorded a steal.

“When we rebound, we rebound well,” Madison coach Mike Smith said.

Junior Taylor Bland led the Blue Streaks with 18 points, four rebounds and five steals, while senior Abbie Trivisonno scored 15 points, had five rebounds and four steals. Taylor Gustin had 10 points, seven boards and five steals.

“You know we are always pretty balanced,” Smith said. “In all my years, pretty much (we) don't just get one person. We are unselfish, any given player.

“Taylor is a spark, a junior getting better every game. Very balanced, did a great job,” Smith said.

Dana Appelfeller had nine points and seven rebounds for Madison.

“You just really have to execute, give it your all, nobody rested,” Appelfeller said of her great game.

She was 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.

“You just have to focus, don't let pressure get to you,” Appelfeller said. “You gotta have the same routine every time”

The Warriors (1-4) were outrebounded 45-15.

“A glaring point, (we) did not rebound,” McCoy said.

The Blue Streaks held a 28-11 advantage after eight minutes, led 52-18 at the half and 77-23 through three periods.

Alyssa Johnson pasced the Warriors with 12 points, Taylor Diemer scored nine points and had a team-high six rebounds and Keegan McTrusty had four points for Edgewood.

Let’s face it — we will never know exactly what a gobbler is thinking. However, we have a good idea of what his motives are during the spring. In one word, girls, he’s waitin’ on a woman.
